About Us

Welcome to Horn & Ivory Books! I'm so thrilled to share my dream with you and invite you into this cozy world of stories, community, and endless fun!

I'm Madison, Owner & Operator!

My passion for reading started young but it was very hard for me to stay focused on what I was reading. I missed the stories and how they became an escape for me when I was younger and the past couple of years I've started reading more again. My love has definitely grown stronger and I can't wait to share and continue to grow with other book lovers.

The Story Behind Horn & Ivory Books

Welcome to Horn & Ivory Books! I'm so thrilled to share my dream with you and invite you into this cozy world of stories, community, and endless fun!

The name Horn & Ivory Books comes from a story, 'Penelope's Gates', in Greek mythology that just made sense to me for the name of my bookstore. In Homer's Odyssey, Penelope speaks of two gates in the dream world: one of horn, symbolizing truth and fulfillment, and one of ivory, representing fantasy and illusion. The two types of books I want for my bookstore are non-fiction (true stories) and fiction (fake stories) books. So I felt this name was unique and still described the books that it would be available.

I envision Horn & Ivory Books to take on a boutique style but still have that old bookstore vibe. The perfect mix of elegance and relaxed charm. The store will feature reading spots and adjoining doors to the local coffee shop. The fresh brew aroma will add to the homey atmosphere.
